Detail

Get picked up from your accommodation and ride comfortably in an air-conditioned car. Take in the picturesque route of the volcano, absorbing insights into the intriguing Balinese culture from your guide. Discover two enigmatic and age-old villages on the island, and delve into their mystical beliefs, exploring their way of life between Bali Sekala (the seen) and Niskala (the unseen).

Your initial destination is Trunyan Village, where locals lead a highly traditional life distinct from the rest of Bali. In contrast to traditional cremation practices, the deceased undergo a cleansing ritual and are placed in a bamboo cage, known as ancak saji, beneath the Taru Menyan tree. The tree, which means “nice smelling tree,” emits a fragrance that neutralizes the odor of decomposing bodies, from which the name “Trunyan” originates. Only the bodies of married individuals are positioned in bamboo cages.

Continue your excursion to another ancient village, Bayung Gede, considered the root of all ancient villages in Bali. Here, many visitors come to witness the unique display of hanging newborn placentas, exclusive to Bayung Gede. In contrast to Trunyan, where the deceased lie unburied, in Bayung Gede, it is the placenta that remains uninterred. This village stands as the sole location in Indonesia practicing this tradition.

A crucial stop on your journey is Kehen Temple, a significant Hindu Temple in Bali situated on the slope of Bukit Bangli, revered as the primary temple of Bangli. Marvel at the breathtaking beauty of its remarkable “steps to heaven” and the distinctive wooden bell hanging from its ancient and secretive banyan tree.

Enhance your experience with optional add-ons, such as a buffet lunch, polaroid camera photographs, traditional massages, Luwak coffee tasting, jungle swings, rafting, ATV rides, a visit to hot springs, or coffee tasting (availability of some add-ons may vary based on selected options).

This trip was fantastic. Our your guide Sushi was extremely knowledgeable in all areas. She provided a thorough explanation of things, speaking very good English. She also made sure we were comfortable buying us an ice cream whilst stuck in traffic. This trip provides a completely different side of Bali, one all should see.
